WOW! I have never heard a voice like that for years. I have watched the PBS special over the holidays and was totally stunned. My music interest is
basically blues and rock, but, I think
that you made me explore the classics.

Renee...I just watched your Christmas special on Ch. 8 (Arizona State Univ.) last evening. I had not heard you perform before...and I was moved to tears by the effortless beauty of your voice and presentation. It always moves me to acknowledge people using their "God blessings" and honor His intentions through that expression.
Your voice is as beautiful as is your physical beauty. Thank you for sharing your gift.
May God continue to bless your life and I look forward to seeing you perform in person when the opportunity presents itself.
Merry Christmas.

Crane School of Music, Son Tim 1989-1993. We're pretty sure we saw you perform with Tim in a couple of operas (he was in the pit). You bio says you went to SUNY as and undergrad, and we remember hearing a remarkable kid singer, and seeing your name, and Tim said yeah, it was this girl from Chili who was a phenom. Only then, she was an alto. I can hear alto in your voice. It's no secret that you have a broad range. I know myself I willed a change from barri to tenor. Tim went on to gig in Michigan for 12 years with Detroit and others, and came back to teach in Webster. We are very glad to see a regular girl doing well on the big circuit. Good for you. And you sure are pretty.

Hello Renee,
Thank you for another wonderful performance at the BARBICAN on Sat 2nd.Your gown was fabulous and the programme was great. You asked me what I liked best and i think it has to be Vissi d'arte but all the programme was amazing.
I was sitting four rows from the front and directly in front of you, it was an unforgettable evening. Can't wait for Thais.

I just finished reading your book, which I found thoroughly enjoyable and interesting. Although I am not a singer in any sense, it was most fascinating to gain some understanding of your approach to singing, most especially the technical aspects and your emphasis on state of mind.
I have enjoyed those recordings of yours which I have, and I assure you that the book gives me an insight which will heighten my appreciation.
Thank you for your work. I only hope my grandchildren will be able, as they grow, to find a similar dedication to their chosen fields of endeavor.

Last night’s (Aug 3) National Symphony Orchestra + Rene Fleming concert at Wolftrap Park in Northern Virginia was an absolutely stunning experience. Even the weather participated. It was unbearably hot – by 7 PM it was still in the upper 90s and no air moving. I sat through a pre-concert presentation by one of the local music critics who discussed the music to be presented. The sunset in the west was gorgeous – high puffy clouds and some “god sunbeams” shining through.
The concert began at 8:15 and opened with the National Symphony playing The Sorceror’s Apprentice followed by The Moonlight Sonatra. The conductor had opened with a brief comment about how hot it was and how the last time Rene came to DC she sang through a huge storm but the weathermen had promised that today’s heat would break by 9 PM. Then he turned and started the Sorceror’s Apprentice. As the music built, lightning and thunder started in the west. As the music built, the lightning and thunder got closer. Then loud cracks of thunder and all hell broke loose. Rain fell as though the heavens had turned on a fire hose – it was so hard it was blowing sideways. It looked as though the flag at the theatre entrance was going to be torn off its pole. Umbrellas were uprooted and rolled across the lawn. Still the orchestra played on. People ran to get under the covered area. Some people just pulled plastic over their heads and sat gamely in the downpour. Still the orchestra played … and, just as the orchestra played the last notes, a huge clap of thunder crackled and roared overhead – and everything went dark! The audience went wild!
We waited in the dark for 15 or 20 minutes while the engineers tried to bring up emergency generators and stage hands raised fabric screens on the sides to protect the lighting. With work lights partially lighting the stage, the orchestra played an ethereal “Clair de Lune.“ Then Rene Fleming floated onstage in an incredible green silk dress (fitted bodice with one of her signature sweeping skirts) and stepped up next to the podium. There were no spotlights – just work lights. She proceeded to sing an incredible piece that left the audience screaming. Then it was intermission and the stage hands worked feverishly to bring up the full lighting. They succeeded. The second half of the concert was equally compelling – It opened with an incredible NSO performance of Ravel's passionate Daphnis et Chloé, Ms Fleming sang several stunningly-performed operatic pieces with summer themes. The finale was amazing – the audience would not let Rene leave – she came back for 5 encores. At one point, she thanked the audience saying “We didn’t think you’d come tonight - it was so hot." During one encore, I Could Have Danced All Night, she had the audience sing along! She finished with “The Last Rose of Summer.”
I had treated myself really great seat (instead of buying my usual lawn seat!). I found myself in a "PIT" seat which turned out to be a chair set up in the 3rd row of the space that is usually the orchestra pit! I had the middle seat - directly in front of the stage. I was about 10-12 feet from Ms Fleming and the NSO conductor…. What a night!

Thank You for writing this wonderful book.

I am a 2006 graduate of the Crane School of Music and I was fortunate enough to meet you at the benefit concert at the Riverside Baptist Church. A couple of my fellow Cranies and I used to buy $25 nosebleed seats at the Met, leave Potsdam in the morning, see the show at night and drive back for class the next morning. We saw you in La Traviata, Rusalka, and Rodelinda and they were all truly fantastic. I hope to see you in Eugene Onegin this coming season...I LOVE your Russian diction. I hope all is well with you and your family.
Take care,

My wife and I, along with another couple, flew to Honolulu to see your Friday night performance. You were stunning... magical... transcendent... Words are inadequate to describe how we felt.
I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy some of Hawai'i. (The North Shore was wonderfully rain-free most of the week.)
Looking at your schedule, I'm wondering if we have to visit Japan just to see you in another concert. Perhaps you will book a concert in the Los Angeles area. I will be the first person in line.

Renée, I saw your performance with Honolulu Symphony tonight and you took my breath away. Your beautiful voice, which has been acknowledged around the world, was amazing and you looked absolutely stunning in your gowns. It was a magical moment that I haven't felt for a long time. Thank you.

Good afternoon to you,
As below - from your website - Where can I get this DVD - I saw this on the BBC, I cannot find the DVD
In November 1998, she starred in The Marriage of Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera, conducted by James Levine and co-starring Cecilia Bartoli and Bryn Terfel. The New York Times said of her performance on the first night: "'Porgi amor' was a flood of beautiful sound; the climactic tones of 'Dove sono' made the body tingle."

I saw Renee last night in Iowa City, Iowa and it was amazing. Her voice fantastic as usual and she just looked beautiful. She really has no idea of what an amazing gift she brought it all the students and singers last night. Here in Iowa we are not often exposed to a talent of her level.
Thank you so much Renee!!!!

Haunted Heart - what a mistake. I adore Ms Fleming's voice and interpretation - have a huge collection but this album is a big "no-no". What on earth did Ms F think she was doing - those dreadful cover versions, that awful rendition of Liebst du um Schönheit. I cannot bear to listen to it. After putting the CD aside for a couple of months, I tried it again yesterday and had to run screaming from the room - sloppy phrasing, awful German. Please, please don't do this again but keep producing the usual standard of divine performance!

Dear Renee,
I just recently discovered your beautiful music and voice from The Lord of the Rings soundtrack. There are no word to describe such beauty. I plan to buy some of your albums because of the glorious sound of your voice in that soundtrack.
What a gift you have to be able to inspire and move the soul of so many beings with such beauty that it is almost difficult to contain.
Also, I got a little 'catch' in my soul (chest/heart) and throat when I scrolled down the homepage and saw the "Get Caught Reading" photo of you. There you are holding one of the most wonderful and treasured books of my childhood -- same edition and cover -- Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry. I was an absolute horse nut growing up and I loved all of her books and read them again and again. I also loved the illustrations by Wesley Dennis. I even drew a few of them (although I was too young to know about plagiarism at the time, but I didn't sell them anyway ...) The Black Stallion series were also some of my horse book favorites during my youth. I wonder if you personally picked that book to hold for the photo because you have a special connection with it? I like to think so -- it's more romantic a notion than that someone just handed you any book to hold for the photo ~smile~
Thank you for adding your own special and unique beauties to this world and reality.
Wishing you joy, abundance in all things that honor you and life, and all your dreams come true, forever and ever and ever!
(p.s. I wish this for everyone . . .)

For those who are interested, a note in the program at last night's Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert indicated that the DVD of their Christmas Concert with Renee Fleming will be released in September. Having personally attended the concert and being familiar with the quality of the MTC's productions I'm sure the DVD will be wonderful!

Dear Ms. Fleming,
I just want to let you know how happy the beautiful sound of your voice has made me and my family. My grandmother had been in bed, in coma, for three weeks and I thought it would be nice to play some music for her. So, I played your casta diva and suddenly, she started to respond!!!! So, not only we're thankful to you for all those hours of pleasure hearing your voice but also beacuse the power of it has made my grandmother come alive again! Thank you very much for that. I loved you in Thais, perhaps my favorite opera and of course, performed by my favorite soprano, ever! You've somehow been touched by God with that precious voice of yours and it touches me how well it works when it comes to healins a person's soul and body!

Looking forward to your visit in our fine town of Iowa City. I am taking 3 of my tennis girlfriends as my husband will be in NYC, he's quite bummed he can't attend. We still keep an apartment there as we are still New Yorkers! And, his business is based in Manhattan. I immediately bought tickets when they went on sale last fall; I don't know much about Opera but your voice moves me! This is my first time seeing you in concert. My seats are awesome and hopefully we will say hello to you after the show. Best of luck!

Renee,
Looking forward to your concert in Dayton this evening, February 21, 2006. I am a member of the Dayton Opera Chorus in rehearsals for Die Fledermaus. You passed right by me in the hallway and unfortunately I was too dumbstruck to speak. Please forgive my inability to articulate, but what was I going to say to you? "Hi, I love you and your insight into soprano vocals"? I didn't want to seem like your run of the mill groupie. Most of the chorus caught a brief glimpse last evening and we are truly thankful! We are thankful not only for a glimpse of our favorite artist, but for being able to use our God given talents which put us in contact with greatness.
Thank You Renee!

Hello Renee,
Not sure you read this guestbook, but just wanted to let you know that I will be seeing you in Buffalo, NY. The tickets were a 2005 xmas gift to me. I joked with a friend of mine that you were the last person to see "in concert" in my entire life as i have seen most of my favorite singers in concert. Seeing you is going to be the most memorable experience of my life!
Thanks for listening, John.

Dear Renee,
Hope you had a wonderful birthday. You are a great inspiration to me, not only as a singer, but as a person. I wish to someday be an opera singer and am studying at a performing arts high school so I can achieve that goal. I remember meeting you once and I told you I wanted to become a singer and your response was ''It's a lot of work, but I think you you should definitely go for it''. Well I'm 19 years old now and am giving it all I got, even though it's been the hardest thing I've had to do yet.

 Dear Renée,
happy birthday to you!-
Unfortunately I missed you in Salzburg/Austria for the celebration of Mozart´s 250th birthday. You had to cancel the festive concert. Press release said: voice problems in the concert aria with piano obbligato. What a pity! I was so lucky to have a ticket for this event. Nevertheless I was somehow comforted by the fact that your colleague Cecilia Bartoli was able to take over your part.
Good luck for the upcoming year!

While visiting the Rising Sun (MD) Library yesterday afternoon (Jan 18) I picked out your cd "Haunted Heart" to check out. Although it said pop/rock on it, I quickly found it sounded jazz and later learned that you were on Martha Stewart. Now I find that you are a famous classical artist. I did enjoy your singing and in particular Stevie Wonder's song, "My Cheri Amour." Thanks for the music. -William

SUPERB PERFORMANCE, TONIGHT, RENEE!!I I Can't believe you had a cold. I was dying up in the mezanine trying not to blow my nose too hard and cough; WELCOME BACK TO ROCHESTER (CRUD). I was touched by your performance as well with your sister. Oh, and I just finished your book; what an inspiration! As a soprano, I have the very same doubts you expressed in such an honest way, only I don't think I could have had the stamina that you have. I certainly didn't have the same opportunities or the necessary personality growing up. I wish I could meet you sometime!! If i ever get over this cold, I hope to continue learning and improving while I can (I'm only 57 now. LOL!) BEST WISHES FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Hi Rene,
Just wanted to check in....it's been a zillion years, but, I still remember you from Ralph J's English class at Gates_Chili, when I student taught there in late '71 to spring of '72.
I know I cageily called on you when my supervisor from Geneseo came to observe me because I always knew I could get a solid correct answer from you....anyways...I have followed your career from afar as most of us in the western NY area have...you just amaze me.....and the new cd sends chills up and down my spine...this is also the cd I have been waiting for.....please....don't make it a one-shot deal.....and don't make us wait so long......Hopefully, I will see you at Eastman when you come this time around....take care.....keep being true to your music and heart....and thanks for teaching me this time....about committment, goals and that good things happen to good people. It thills me to have known you, even at that young age, we all knew it would happen for you!!!!
Fondly,
Mr. Biel

Can you give me some sense of when you will know your 2005/06 schedule? My mother is a huge fan - she missed your concert in California (either Santa Barbara where she lives or LA, I don't recall anymore) as she was quite ill and couldn't get out of bed (despite trying hard). I promised last year for her birthday to get her tickets next time you came to town either in LA, Santa Barbara, Boston or London if she could make it, but I can't find your upcoming schedule anywhere.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. You should know that you have a quite discerning fan in my mother (you are one of only three favorites who reduce my mother to tears (along with Kiri and Frederika von Stade)) and a growing one in me.

Xenia

Hello Renee, I am writing to tell how much I have enjoyed your cd recordings this year, especially the Haunted Heart cd. I hope you continue to use your great musical instincts, that you displayed all of your recordings in the future. My only desire is that you let loose a little more on your next jazz recording. I would love to hear you scatt, hit some high notes, like a horn and put some gospel melisma in that recording. This is what I love about your last recital tour in L.A. and your performance of But Beautiful, with Brad M. Also I would love if you did a recording of Over the Rainbow. The last thing I would love for you to do is some Hugo Wolf lieder and another Handle opera with Bill Christie. I love you Renee. Thanks for being a great artist and human being. Mel Williams

Hello. I am writing to you at the request of Lee Cullum. She tried unsuccessfully to get on the backstage list this week at the Met to see you. Now she is planning a trip to see you at Carnegie Hall, Jan. 8. What do I need to do to get her backstage after that 3:00 p.m. performance? Certainly you can read into all of this the implicit effusive praise Lee has for your work.
I will be grateful, as will Lee, for your counsel.

Dear Renee,
How are you and your children? I am also an opera singer, but I lost my sight two years ago due to two strokes and a coma. I got your book and am having people read it to me It is very interesting. I wrote to you care of your publisher but have not heard back yet, I know your very busy. I think you have the most bueatiful voice I have ever heard and are pretty too. On the Bel Canto cd it sounds to me during one of the candenza it sounds like you are going up to a high F, is that right? Its absoulty astonishing. I'm looking forward to getting your Christmas cd. When you have a free moment I would be thrilled to get a short note from you.

Hi, Renee -- I was born in Indiana, Pa. on November 17, 1958, and so I read with interest about you in the Parade Magazine as we would have been (and are) three months apart in age. Were your parents teachers in Indiana or at the university? My mom was a nurse at the time and my dad taught business at Marion Center High School. My uncle, Stan Servinsky, taught music at Horace Mann Elementary School. Where did your parents live in Indiana? Or, did you grow up outside of the town proper???? I would enjoy hearing from you. It was enjoyable to read all that you have done with your career. There's another woman withwhom I graduated high school in 1976 who does sing in New York City -- Connie Kunkle -- She is going to be singing on November 21 with the Skitch Henderson orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Best regards -- Cheryl Stewart-Miller

Dear Ms. Fleming, My brother is a great fan of yours and gave me a copy of your book, which I just finished reading. I have never heard you in person, but I love the Handel CD (I"m a great fan of Handel!) Thank you for taking the time to write the book. I found it fascinating. It's interesting to see what an opera star goes through to reach the heights. I was particularly happy to read how much time you devote to your daughters. Life is not just about You! I am currently living and working in Rome, as a librarian at one of the colleges there. Once a year, I attend the Opera in Rome, and that is such a treat! Last year we saw The Magic Flute, and it was fantastic. Hope you can sing in Rome soon, while I'm still there! I'd love to hear you in that opera house.
God bless you.

Renee, I just finished reading your wonderful book. I have been through a very tough time, which I won't go into, but before this situation, I had considered giving up singing, and now that I'm out of it, I also am considering giving it up. I am a countertenor and have only school performance experience but many years of training in voice and now have a very low-paying job out in Long Island City and live in the Bronx. To cut to the chase, I read your book over the course of about a month, and it has really inspired me because many very talented young singers who have such huge success had it early on--not so much in your case, and it makes me feel so much better that somebody so HUGELY gifted, both musically, dramatically, AND vocally (thank you very much, critics, yes she DOES command complete performances, not just on the beauty of the voice, blah, blah--we singers can tell!) had to work VERY, VERY hard for a number of YEARS to get to the very exalted territory you are at now. I WILL try my darndest to get through these years of poverty and strive to get work little by little, hopefully giving people the chance one day to hear me express all my joy and sadness and anger and whatever else the role demands of me on stage one day, to a bigger audience. By the way, I applied to HOUSTON's studio back in 2001 and was accepted for an audition but was told by an otolaryngologist that I possibly had a node--I skipped the audition and went for a second opinion in NYC and they told me it was just PHLEGM!! Well, I was outdoing myself, singing for pleasure only (as I will probably never do the role, it is a mezzo pants role tour de force)--Komponist from Ariadne auf Naxos, so it was wearing away at my cords. Anyway--sorry to babble on so, Renee, I love you and your voice and feel I've gotten to know you more as a person through the video, Ladies and Gentelemen....Renee Fleming and the book and look forward to seeing you soon and meeting you backstage--possibly after a performance of Manon this season--remember, Robert E. Lee, it's not too unforgettable a name!! Ciao, bella!

Until 3 years ago I will admit I had know idea who Renee Fleming was. Thanks to my vocal instructor I was introduced to one of the greatest voices I have ever heard. Your music had been a great inspiration in my own vocal studies. I saw in your 2001-2002 Season Schedule that you attended an event in Atlanta, GA, and was wondering if in the future were you planning on coming back to the Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN or Knoxville, TN area. Because I would love to attend a live performance.

Ms. Fleming;
Caught you on PBS last night "Live..." at the opening of 'Mostly Mozart.' I don't know if the entrance was planned that way, but your sudden appearance on the arm of the Maestro was fantastic, ie. What an Entrance! Only you could get away with it. And, of course, the music was better than perfect - it was real music, and (as the Times said this morning) "effortless." God bless you for offering your talent with such charm. #1!
Sincerely, RSBorden

Dear Miss Fleming,
I have had the peasure of hearing you in recital in Brevard, NC and as Violetta at the Met. The performance with Vargas and Hvorostovsky was perfect in every way for me. I brought a gift of 2 CDs to that performance with the hopes of being able to greet you back stage but security measures at the Met cancelled such activities. I plan to hear you and Ben Heppner in Otello at Covent Garden on July 10. Is there an event that week for fans to greet you and so that I could deliver to you my gift? If you can place my name on a list to visit you backstage on July 10 I would appreciate it very much. Regards, Nelson Rhodes

Dear Ms. Fleming,
Although I'm sure you will not have a chance to read this email in the immediate future (or ever), I wanted to take a moment and write you a brief note of gratitude for all of the inspiration you have provided me during the past years.
I recently graduated from New England Conservatory with a Masters degree in Vocal Performance, and while it has been an arduous road full of both disappointment and occasionally a great sense of accomplishment, I have always looked to you as an exemplary role model for an aspiring singer. While the beauty of your tone and magnetic stage presence first overwhelmed me, it has been your commitment to studying and performing such a variety of repertoire that has provided the most inspiration. I have found for myself that the learning process of a piece of music, i.e. the discussion/coaching a piece of music, understanding what the composer intended, etc., is often more gratifying than a great performance of it.
Even under the limited budget of a singer-student, I've been fortunate to see you perform live at Chicago Lyric (Otello), the Met (Traviata), and most recently your recital at Carnegie Hall. Each performance has rejuvenated my spirit and helped me stay focused on pursuing a career that portends daunting odds of success. When I get discouraged, one listening of your recording of Strauss's, "Four Last Songs," lifts my sprits!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope this note will touch you in the same way you have touched countless others.
Sincerely,
Jonah Nigh

Hello Mrs. Fleming,
I am so delighted to discover your website. I am a 38 yr old mom of 3 children studying in voice in Granby, CT with Jana Pivaceck and you are mentioned in every one of my lessons. Your voice is ethereal and quite an exceptional model for me to listen to. I am hoping to get my hands on a DVD of your performing so I can see you face to face. Your voice is so free and just effervesces from note to note. Can you recommend a DVD/VHS that would provide me with close up shots of you singing.
I am looking forward to reading all the bios made available on this site. I want to know lots more detail about your technique and foundation for singing. I work with a Bel Canto teacher and she often reads me passages from Lamperti's "Vocal Wisdom" book. AS my teacher reads to me...she refers to you and your sound as an example of what Lamperti defines as a "great singer"--chiascuro!!
I hope to hear from you and see you perfrom live. Do you have any plans to perform in Connecticut??
Sincerely, Susie LOtreck
Sara:
Hi Susie! I would personally recommend that you listen to one of Renee's performances in Otello, Manon or Rualka. Or if you would like to see her off the opera stage, then she has a dvd with Bryn Terfel called 'Under the Stars'. I also recommend her book 'The Inner Voice'. These should help you understand how she achieves her beautiful sound! But there is definately nothing that comes near to the amazing experience of hearing her live.

F.Y.I. anyone interested in hearing an excerpt from Flemings new cd, simply go to Iclassics.com and check out the diva's great rendition of River by Joni Mitchel. I am really looking forward to hearing the rest o g this cd. If its anything like this song, this should go over extremely well with her current fans and create new ones. Remember listen to Renee's other voice with an open mind. This is why she is reinging diva in the classical world and now the rest of the world will have a chance to hear the most beautiful voice in classical, jazz, pop, or whatever she chooses to sing.
Best Wishes Renee with this cd and your recital at carnegie hall with Brad.

Hello Renee:
It is great reading about all of the information and accomplishments that you have made. If you don't remember me, I sang with you at the VA Opera in 1988. You were Pamina and sang the 1st Lady role in the matinees. We both sang with a hundred children, directed by Carol Crawford. I will be coming to NY on May 5, 2005 to see my teacher perform at the MET. He is Michael Forest. I am working on my Doctorate of Arts Degree in Vocal Performance at Shenandoah University Conservatory. I hope that if you are at the Met that night, we might can meet up. My cell phone is 757-277-4131. Take care. "The lady with the lovely voice".

Thanks to Renee for one of my most enjoyable evenings in the world of music and for that matter any area of experience. I was at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas on April 25, 2005. At encore time I moved to the front row, something I ordinarily do not do, but this was a very, very special occasion. There is no more beautiful experience than hearing her sing and relate to the audience. Thank you a hundred and more times.

Ms Fleming,
I watched my first performance of Rene’ Fleming’s type of operatic style and I am now hooked. Up until last night I never pictured myself as a lover of the musical arts. To start off, seven years ago then my girlfriend and now my wife introduced me to the fine arts. She is an artistic person to the core. When we first met I never “got it” as far as understanding what she felt when she told me that the arts just “did it for her” Me and my wife had the opportunity to go and see Ms. Fleming last night and it was an eye opening experience. Seven years after being introduced to the arts, I now “get it”. Last night’s performance in Fort Worth at the Bass Performance hall shook me to the core. The passion that I seen in Ms. Fleming and her music caught and gripped me like I have never been touched. I literally was hanging on every note that came from the operatic diva, even though I could not understand German very well. I am thankful to Ms. Fleming for her beautiful voice and style that is all her own and look forward to the next time she comes to this part of the world.

Ms. Fleming: Thank you for the gift of your voice to the world. I have always enjoyed your performances whether "sacred" or "profane" [and am now listening to A Prairie Home Companion]. I was delighted to see you had trained at SUNY/Potsdam, the source of vocally stunning S&As to accompany our T&Bs in a performance of the Bach B-Minor Mass when I had just entered college (and you were six!). They all had perfect pitch, all sight read the score and were generally intimidating to this baritone. The performance, plussed up with an European chamber orchestra, set the bar for me. After four hours of singing, I left filled with both fatigue and joy. I thought then (and still feel) it would be safe to die, having done everything important in life. SUNY/Potsdam was a great contribution to this. For continuing the tradition and adding your fine voice, I send thanks...

Hello, my name is Christian.
Madame Fleming, I must say that you are simply the greatest diva I have
ever heard in my entire life. I've seen you perform Il Pirata, La
Traviata, and Rodelinda in New York and you are just the most sublime
artist I've ever encountered in the history of opera. The beauty of
your
tone, the agility of your voice, the immediate expressiveness, the
vastness of your repertoire...everything is simply amazing about your
voice!
During the 50's, we had the great Callas, and now, we have the great
Renée! Ms. Fleming, I thank you for bringing such wonderful music into
this world. I just have one suggestion, and that is to continue
singing
bel canto roles! I loved you in Armida and Il Viaggio a Reims, as well
as Rosmonda d'Inghilterra and Lucrezia Borgia. Your Sonnambulas were
amazing as well and so were the great Stranieras from the past. I just
wish you wouldn't venture out of bel canto as it is the repertoire at
which you are at your best. I don't say that your Rodelinda wasn't
amazing...goodness it was the greatest I've ever heard! But, bel
canto is your cup of tea. If you can, please urge Decca to do a
recording
of one of the roles you have done in the past. Straniera will be
amazing, and Pirata will be even more so! But, if there is one role
which I
would dream of you undertaking, it would be the Druid priestess Norma.
I heard you in Chicago doing the Sediziose Voci...Casta Diva...Ah bello
a me ritorna excerpt, and it was every bit as breathtaking as the
greatest Norma of them all...Callas! I urge you to take this extremely
complex yet amazing role into your repertoire, because I believe only
you,
in this present age, can bring life into Norma's phrases. I have heard
Cedolins and Gruberova do it, and so many other divas, but hearing a
glimpse of what your Norma would be like in Chicago makes me want you
to
attempt to sing it onstage. Also, I think you singing Rossini's
Elisabetta Regina d'Inghilterra will make such a great impression on
that
role. Your Massenet roles are amazing enough as well, possibly the
best Thais, Manon, and Salome I've ever heard. But Norma...heavens
that
would be a dream!
Please email me about anything you'd like to tell me about your roles.
You are a master at Strauss of course, and so are you at Mozart. I'm
looking forward to another year of great, miraculous singing. Once
again, thank you for sharing your voice with us. I'm looking forward
to
your jazz CD.

I was privileged to attend your Symphony Hall Concert in Boston in February. It was a thrilling night for me. Thank you for the beauty you bring to us!
I am looking forward to reading your book. I am no longer a young singer - I know that you like to encourage the young voices. My daughter, who is 12, is starting to sing as a cantor in our church. I had performed Purcell's, "Sweet Music" and "O Had I Jubal's Lyre" which you did at Symphony Hall. How incredible to hear you do them. And my absolute favorite, "O Mio Babbino Caro" (which my husband unfortunately sings in the shower). And your "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"! Thank you for a wonderful evening!!
We just saw Bernadette Peters in the same Celebrity Series at Symphony Hall. She was awesome, too.
Happiness to you! - Alice

Mrs. Fleming,
First of all, congratulations on your work so far.
I'm also studying to be an opera singer. I'm developing as a baritone. I'm loving it.
I'm also dead curious about your book. Have heard so many wonderful comments about it that I can wait to put my hands and eyes on one.
It is a pitty though that it hasn't come out in my country yet. Hopefully it will.
I saw the pieces of your interview here in your web page...Had fun! You seemed to be a odwn to earth person. And funny too. Natural. And yet I saw Mrs. Fleming the mother while you're talking about your children.
Once again just wanted to say congratulations for the work you've developed so far! Wish you from my heart all the best you can get!
p.s.: When are you coming to BRazil to sing for us?
Best wishes,
Mateus.

Dear Renee,
I have seen you on A&E Breakfast with the Arts. You have a fabulous voice... You seem to be a down to earth kind of a person to me. Those are the best kind of people to be. I am also a horse lover and a daydreamer...
I have always wanted to be a singer as far back as I can remember. It freed my soul to soar... It helped me to survive my childhood and also helps me to feel closer to God... My family did not support my dream.
Now I am a fourty four year old women finally trying to fulfill a lifelong dream... Where do I start from here?? I was wondering if I should find a vocal & speaking coach?? I am a shy person too and want to overcome that... I thinking of getting a copy of The Inner Voice. Will your book help me to find the support to be any kind of singer that I choose to become?? Thank you for writing the book The Inner Voice The Making of a Singer...
Thank you,

I am writing because it turns out we are distantly related and I thought you might be interested to know that you actually have "cousins" nearby in New Jersey. My husband is Eric Diethorn and his mother is Helen Davis Diethorn. Your father is Helen's cousin. Helen's father, John Davis and your grandmother (Elizabeth Davis) were brother and sister. So you are Helen's first cousin. Needless to say, we are thrilled with the connection.
If you ever want to escape to the "country" (we live in Long Valley) you would be most welcome to visit. We have 2 girls, ages 9 and 13. My husband is an electrical engineer (PhD) with Avaya and I teach adult computer classes.
Thank you for your time!

Dear Renee,
I had the unprecedented good fortune to hear you in recital at the Ordway in Minneapolis a week ago. My sister had been given tickets by friends who suddenly were unable to use them. She emailed me in Georgia at 10:00 a.m. Feb. 23rd, and by 1:00, thanks to my husband and frequent flyer miles, I was on my way! It was three days before my 2/26 birthday and I felt just like Cinderella!
To listen to your CDs is one thing; to read reviews and interviews another. But to experience you in person was magical. I don't know whether I have ever been so struck with the knowledge of what it means to have "presence". You focused all of us in the audience to our purpose that night, to be in the music, even graciously chiding us when our enthusiasm threatened to overide the spirit of enchantment you evoked.
I was tongue-tied at the signing table after the recital. You asked what had been my favorite piece presented that evening. I stammered about my sister's expressed favorite! But without a doubt, the letter set to music by Kander was most moving and expressive, possibly because of the restraint involved in the soldier's attempt to console and comfort his love in anticipation of his death in battle.
I thank you for making a memorable , magical evening for all of us there. As you sang Susannah's "Ain't It A Pretty Night?" we could only agree, pretty nigh perfect. The only thing that would have made it better? Perhaps an encore performance of Rusalka's "Song to the Moon" in honor of the beautiful full moon shining that lovely clear night!
I hope to see and hear you again in the future, but that perfect night in Minnesota will be one of my life's treasured memories.
Sincerely yours, Suzanne Hutto

There is a voice student at Eastman in her third year. I have known her since she was eight years old. Although I would have wanted her to follow the jazz singer route, she is intent on becoming a Diva and following in your footsteps. Her name is Kathryn Blomshield.
My mother was a pianist, organist and singer and I have been listening to singers for over seventy years. And make my own CDs with clarinet. I served the worlds foremost singers, instrumentalist and orchestras for thirty years as a piano technician and think of Kathryn as the most gifted vocalist I have heard. Including Doris Day. You have probably underrated her along with most of today's Divas. I am aware of your background in jazz and am looking forward to your CD. It has been faddish for divas to do pop cds lately. Pretty bad for the most part. Maybe you are conservatory proof. Kathryn is, I hope. You are both profoundly gifted people and, as audience, we and deeply indebted. Without music, there is no "human" race. Thanks.

Hello Renee,
I have been a single mother of two daughters since I was 18 years of age. I am now 36. Over the past 11 years, I have taken private voice lessons on and off beginning with pop and finally arriving home with opera.
I have not had the opportunity to study consistantly because I am the sole supporter of this burning desire and I have not always had the funds. Well, I do now. Although I am unable to recieve training via a university, there must be some other way to accomplish my goal which is to perform. Even in a chorus would be wonderful. I have been told however that once a chorus girl always a chorus girl. Non the less, performing is what I must do. I feel as though I do not have the big picture as to what I should do to prepare to audition and able to compete with other vocalist who have had a well rounded education. Aside from vocal coaching which I continue to do, will you please give me some direction as to what other things I should be doing (i,e, foreign language classes, diction, etc) I feel it would be ideal to have a private school to go to for a few months at a time to get a well rounded education. I can leave the state of California. Any suggestions? I really need a clear perspective as to where to go from here.
Thank you very much.
Alana

Dear Miss Fleming,
Having just listened to a soundcheck broadcast with Brad Mehldau,I am keenly interested in the songs you and he will be performing based on poems from Rilke's book of hours. One of my favorite translations of this work is by Joanna Macy and Anita Barrows.I am sending you one of my favorite poems from their translation.
WENN ETWAS MIR VOM FENSTER FALLT
How surely gravity's law, strong as an ocean current, takes hold of the smallest thing and pulls it toward the heart of the world.
Each thing--each stone,blossom,child--is held in place,Only we in our arrogance, push out beyond what we each belong to for some empty freedom.
If we surrendered to earth's intelligence we could rise up rooted like trees.
Instead we entangle ourselves in knots of our own making and struggle lonely and cofused.
So,like children,we begin again to learn from things, because they are in god's heart;they have never left him.
This is what things can teach us:to fall, patiently to trust our heaviness.Even a bird has to do tht before he can fly.
Rilke

I just wanted to say - and I'm sure I'm not the first to say this - that Renée has got the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. I heard her for the first time on the Lord of the Rings soundtracks, and now I'm eager to hear her other works. What a powerful, heart-breaking voice she has!!! Truly one of the best singers in the world...

Thank you SO MUCH for writing such an informative and humble book, Renee. You have always been an incredibly inspiring performer for me, as a young singer myself, to watch on stage. I love your voice, and your musicianship and stage presence is impeccable. You are truly the greatest soprano of our century. This I believe even more after reading your book.
As a singer, I have felt so victimized by the business, and it was extremelly comforting to read that you too experienced similar trials and tribulations throughout your career. My respect for you grew 100% after your candid portrayal of the years preceeding your career. The part which helped me the most was whenever you spoke the "mantras" which you recited before the MET auditions that you won. After reading that, I used similar mantras, and won a coveted musical theatre role which I'll be performing this summer, Annie Oakley in "Annie Get Your Gun", in addition to a cover role of Aanchen in "Der Freischutz" with Opera Orchestra New York.
Thank you, Renee. I, like you said in the beginning of your book, have always longed to read a book about a successful Diva which talked about HOW she attained her success. You gave us that, and I cannot thank you enough for your inspiration and your generosity. I will always be a huge fan.
Warmest regards and thanks,
Susan Lewis

Hello Ms. Fleming,
You probably hear it every day at least 300 times but I want to say it, I adore your singing! I went to see Rodalinda 2 times this season and every time you made me cry. I am a young soprano who just moved to New York. I know you are the busiest singer in the world but I was wondering if you ever give master classes or voice lessons? If so, where can I get this inforamtion?
Thank you in advance,

Ms.Fleming-
I just wanted to say that the concert yesterday (tues) in Seattle was wonderful. I really enjoyed the pieces from Susannah and the Kander piece [which I hadnt heard before] Youre such an inspiration to me as a young soprano (15 year old soubrette, I hope I turn lyric as I mature though) and you were very kind at the signing afterwards (you must have been sooo tired, I cant imagine) Anyways the picture that I had taken after the show with you turned out very nicely and I thought I would post the link for you (if you get a chance to check) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/pinkstiletto510/111.jpg

Ms. Fleming,
I just finished reading your new book and want to tell you how much I enjoyed reading it. I found it to be quite helpful and appreciated the candid way you presented your ascent to opera stardom. I am an adjunct professor of voice in mid-missouri. I recently finished my MM in vocal performance and found your recordings to be quite an inspiration. I have tried to immulate your sound and have studied quite a bit of your rep. I am struck at the vast scope of your talent and that you do not limit yourself to one certain fach. Before reading your book I used to wonder at how you could have such richness and warmth in your voice and still do the amount of coloratura that you make sound so effortless. There are singers out there that I truly believe were just born with a great set of pipes and really don't know how they make the sounds that they do, but to find out that you had to struggle to make it and work so hard at your craft gives me hope. I will never be a stage performer, I started way too late in life, but hope to have a career teaching and singing recitals. Thank you for sharing with us the intimate details of your education and how you found your voice. It was truly an inspiration.

I would like to wish Ms Fleming a Happy Birthday and I am looking forward to hear her tonight in LA. She is the best soprano in the world, she is perfect, flawless.
The tenors have only one tenor that reached perfection---Pavarotti and the sopranos have only one soprano who reached perection---Fleming. I wish they will sing together soon.
I would like to wish Ms Fleming many happy and healthy years to come and I would like to thank her for her beautiful singing. I listen to all her CD's every day when I drive from one college to another. This is the beauty of being a part-time professor, I have plenty of time to listen to her CD's because I am driving a lot every day. She makes my driving much easier and more pleasant.
I wish you more success and thank you again for sharing your voice with us.
God Bless,

Hi Renée, my name is Leo. I'm reading your book in small sips and enjoying it thoroughly. I wish we could meet and chat in person, it would be great. But of course I realize that you're at the height of your career and therefore so busy. From your book, however, I feel that you're too sincere and down-to-earth to ignore me. We actually met in Milan - you probably don't remember, but you might, from what I gather about you from your book. You speak my language... I'm Canadian and I'm a baritone living in Milan. We met in the bar next to La Scala when you were in Milan singing Donna Elvira. I think it was lunch time. You had a sandwich and sat with me and my friend and we chatted a bit. I remember that you asked us if your voice could be heard well in the theatre, worrying that it was too small for La Scala. I liked your humble straighforward attitude, which is so hard to find in Italy, and from opera singers in general. But it only confirms what I've understood about you from your book. You've been through a lot, like myself, changing teachers, countries...and life hasn't been easy for you, which only makes me all the more happy for your success. You've got that special communicative magic in your voice that many people love. I do the odd performance as a soloist but to survive I've been mostly singing in opera choruses at the major theatres in Italy. Even with all the positive feedback I've had on my vocal and stage qualities, I haven't been able to find an agent and therefore have a career as a soloist as I've always dreamed and hoped. Maybe I haven't tried hard enough to find an agent or maybe it's like you said in your book: you need a little "luck". In any case, I've had some memorable moments as a soloist and any opportunity I get is appreciated immensely and always a fantastic experience. Anyway, you've come a long way, honey! I admire your stamina and passion for your art. I really hope to meet you one day, maybe even sing for you in a masterclass... Your discoveries and reflections on singing are very similar to mine, and I wish I were 10 years younger reading your book, it may have saved me time and helped me to make the right decisions but that's life. It will be of help in my teaching and in reflections on life and singing. Your book is a real conversation with you - a virtual one. It's fluid and clear and so casual, a true pleasure to read and an important and unique and long-awaited contribution to the wealth of books on singing; as you have said, a book you wished you had read when you were younger. Insights and no-nonsense advice from real experience. That's the best there is!
I hope you do contact me because I'd really like to meet you again and talk about singing and your career and experiences. I know that besides a busy career schedule you've also got a husband and two girls to take care of, but if you get a chance to write or are ever in Milan, please contact me! Leo Paul Chiarot, Tel. and Fax 011 39 0248193273 or 011 39 3394907428(mobile). My email address is leoc38@hotmail.com
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Renee,
I have never been a fan to follow any artist, but you are truly exceptional. I feel like a teenager groupie! I have every CD and am currently reading your book. I disect every song, phrase, and note that I hear you sing.
I've been told that I'm a look alike and have the same vocal range. I don't mean to just say this, but my son always thought it was me when he saw the cover of your albums. If you ever need a look alike, you might want to call me (wink).
I am a struggling singer myself and juggling family too. I am interested in any master classes that you might be involved in. I know you rarely have time, but you mentioned in your book that you do teach them periodically.
I would love to have the control that you have. High notes are easy for me and my range is insanely broad. I can sing high Coloratura to alto, but to connect these voices has been a challenge. I know you have had similar challenges, and I'd love so pointers because you have learned to make the transitions like velvet.
I was told a rumor that you might be coming to Salt Lake to record with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas Special in Dec. 2005. This last month they used Audra McDonald, and a year ago they used Frederica Von Stade and Bryn Terfel. They go all out with a fabulous orchestra and lighting effects. In fact, this year they used a soloist from Ballet West that did the sugar plum fairy solo and other dancers that danced in the aisles with lanterns. You would be the absolute best, I hope the rumor is true!
I love your interpretations and your breath control is to die for. I'm so proud of how you've taken off weight and juggled your family life to still keep your dreams of this fabulous career. I sense that you still keep the value of family above it all and are very grounded. Good for you! You are a true inspiration to us all!
Love,
Rebecca (a devoted fan, mom, and singer)

The January 1st Met Broadcast of Rodelinda was one of the most thrilling I have ever heard in the 30 years that I have listened to the Saturday broadcasts. The cast was stellar and Ms. Fleming's singing was emotionally riveting. I sat transfixed beside the speakers. The duet with Mr. Daniels was so deeply heartfelt that it brought tears to my eyes, the beauty of the music transcendent. Would that a recording with this cast was available.
And hopefully we will hear more of Handel's magnificent operas... Merle

I just finished reading your book and was really inspired by it! I found it really helpful as a tool for young singers, allowing direct insight into the operatic/classical singing career (both the positives and the negatives) that we often don't get in such detail.
I really appreciated how honest and open you were and I appreciate you more as an artist because of it.
I know you probably hear this every day, but you have a wonderful gift. Thank you for being so gracious as an artist and generous as a person to share your gift with as many people as possible.

I have always been a down home country boy. However, strange it may seem that when the CD player changes from Brooks and Dunn the next CD is "Renee Fleming By Request".How her voice moves me and relaxes me. How the Song to the Moon makes the tears flow down my cheeks. To be able to sing in so many different languages, to hear the emotion in the voice. If she were ever to sing country music - Nashville just wouldn't be big enough.
I am a minority to her genre of music being the redneck I am. But, when my mind wanders from the everyday stresses, and the tears flow down my cheeks, I thank God for the talent he has blessed her with.
God bless you Renee,
Your redneck minority leader,

Dear Renee,
Thanks so much for appearing on ABC's "The View" today. Your beautiful rendition of Schubert's Ave Maria took me right out of a most horrible, "Bah Humbug!" pre-Christmas mood. I also wanted to say thank you for appearing on a mainstream media show, marketing the world of opera to America. People say the classical music audience is dwindling in America, but it won't if people of your talent continue to touch "the masses" with your God-given gifts. When one hears a talent such as yours, how can one not be curious to investigate further into the magical world of opera. Thank you! --Cathy

Where to start, where to start? My daughter just turned 21, senior in college (Sociology & Women's Studies); Grad School Fall 2005 re Vocal Performance. Sings anything, but prefers & aspires to professional classical/operatic (Lyric/First Soprano). You have always been her favorite vocalist. Kelly's first visit to NYC will be over Christmas & I just purchased Family Circle tickets fr 12-27. She is unaware & I'm ready to pop w/excitement! My daughter is beautiful, but, even more so on the inside. I am a very, very blessed parent, plus she introduces me to her friends as her "best friend". Nowadays, this is atypical of parental unit. :) Is there any opportunity for Kelly to meet you after the 12-27 performance? There! I finally got it out. Realize demands on your time and energy are enormous. If not available re briefly, rest assured attending your performance will be her highlight. Would have liked to attend your recent Kennedy Center events, but she was away at school - academics first. Personally, I admire you as a classy independent woman and mom, who happens to have incredible talent and thank you for sharing your gift. gloria

THE DIVA RIDDLE - da capo
No answer, what a surprise ! Or are you playing games - your turn -
while having found it long ago ? I wonder.
Nevertheless, da capo, back to the beginning...
Neither musical references (one), nor mathematics (two) helped you, apparently.
Renée, a Goddess in Olympia, a star in firmament :
there it stands again and again, this secret object ! ... yet
Queens like you are strictly forbidden to wear it.
Whether in major or minor tone, your marvelous voice immediately attracts the answer, like a magnet,
forming a mosaic of magic moments for all to share.
Other clues needed ?
In this riddle, Connecticut behaves like Provence, when hope is brought to America from Mediterranea, the starting-point.
Through Eastman, both of us share it,
though in entirely different worlds : you in music,
I in images.
Being symmetrical, it hides a double portion.
Careful, the word is but a sound !
Still in the dark ? I shall light a candle to guide your eyes.
Do not await a miracle : it happens only once !
Rather trust your own logic : act with method, like a metronome, body and mind in perfect rythm as you know how, and it will happen many times...
Cryptic texts nag at our brain for we often sense
an easy issue ! True ! I know you feel the concealed wordso close, so evident... Only the rare beauty of your charming, magnificent mind - leading you - instantly gives a triple solution.
At this point, you probably suspect some stupid male misogyny (easy one)
because of your misology (tough one) ? Rest assured : I dislike the first,
and the latter does certainly not apply to you !
This riddle - like the previous two - was no mascarade, no mystification at all.It owns such a facile answer, Diva, keep faith...

Dear Ms. Fleming,
I bought copies of your book for my daughter (who is singing opera in Germany) and my son (who is a graduate voice student at IU). Your story and their's are similar in many ways, and I wonder if you would autograph the books for them. I would send the books to you with a return envelope and return postage.
As a singer, voice teacher, and choir director I am thoroughly enjoying your book. And it is always a joy to hear you sing!

Rene, there is no question that you are blessed! I had the pleasure of hearing you sing at the Met (my first time there) Il Pirata. During the mad scene, my voice teacher and I were both weeping. The emotions that we felt were so intense--your acting is so superb! And of course, your voice is unique and splendid and full of emotion! Hearing you sing is like touching the face of God. It is an experience that I shall never, never forget! Thank you so much for your fabulous art!

THE DIVA RIDDLE
bis repetita
As the previous riddle was not solved,
here is its continuation, with an identical solution.
Let’s try it with figures :
Our Diva likes these, as goes “In this opera I will sing, of one, two... ... backwards, five, four, three, two, one”...
Alas, here no hint included at all !
She has to count up to millions to get to the key,
or otherwise written 999,999 + 1 = 1,000,000
which gives one first solution
and all the following ones, until 999,999,999.
Then, just adding one, she loses the key again ...
What about signs ?
Use a +, or a / no way ! but with a - (minus) or a x,
there you get solutions twice...
This second riddle was created on Nov. 10th 2004,
which could also be figured as
11,102,004 or 10,112,004
both bring the one and only result, hidden
in their second word.
Now for the lucky one : I hope you’re not superstitious !
The unriddler lies in 13, even if thirteen does not have it.
That says you’re halfway in French or English, but probably not in Czech.
Thousands don’t give it in English, when it works in Latin.
Back to your world, Diva, as Von Otter sings it with such perfect diction in Offenbach, but to say which role would be a giveaway ...
Now do you have it ? Of course you have,
I knew such a brilliant and talented spirit
would find it so very easy !
More admiration from southern France,
Nicolas Prudhomme

Saw Letterman on 11/10 ,first time I heard Renee Fleming.A masterfull performance!Boccelli, & Sara Brightman, are the two voices I associate the most with operetic/classical music, but now I will add another ,Renee Fleming! It's too bad I was'nt familliar with her ,because I would have surely went to her perfomance in Chicago on 10/30.

Since I am from Butler, Pa., I know that Indiana is not a large town!
My sister-in-law's mother's maiden name was Fleming. She had a brother who was a Doctor in Indiana, Pa., a Dr. Edward Fleming!! Any relation??
Thank you, and I'm looking forward to hearing the CDs I've just purchased from Amazon!

THE DIVA RIDDLE
Despite your undisputable talent, Renée possesses none, while Fleming has it, buried deep inside.
I honestly regret to say beauty has none at all.
Neither does love, unless it stands as amour, or amore.
The composer you are of course uses it.
Our mesmerized souls have two of these whenever we hear you.
In music, we always find a little one, or a larger one, whether we consider it a basic distraction or an Art.
Opera has it not, Bel Canto lacks it too, but performing will always bring one to you.
We are enchanted to listen - religiously - and minus never applies to you, although here it could be a very useful lead !
Just for once, trust not your heart but the intellect :
your magnificent mind will give you two clues.
When you were still a classical learner, you could have found one in the Bach “Magnificat”, but not as discreet as the one we discovered later in “I want magic”.
Will you please give me the pleasure of your answer ?

Just had to say THANK YOU for your performance of the "Four Last Songs" with the Philadelphia Orchestra. WOW!
Also, I have had a thought on several occasions since, I think, you sang the National Anthem at the National Cathedral for the memorial service after the 9/11 incident. How much better this great country would be if the singing of the National Anthem would be done by a compenant singer. I always think of your beautiful voice. Might I suggest that you record the National Anthem so that we can have a definitive performance to use at public gatherings of various sorts. It would be a great public service.
Wonder if any of the Chevron-Texaco board members heard your performance. I mention this because shortly after learning that Chevron-Texaco was ending its association with the MET, I heard it had the most profitable quarter in its history. Too bad that Chevron-Texaco does not have the sense of social responibility that the old Texaco had. I think it was a hostile take over by Chevron. I grew up listening to the Met broadcasts and it was a shock when I heard the annoucement.
Thank YOU, Richard Monts

Hello Renee,
I just thought i would write you because i would just like to say how much i adore your voice. Really, being a singer myself makes listening to your voice such a pleasure.
I am currently a Counter Tenor. I have singing lessons off a fabulous woman who is linked with Cantamus an international girls choir. I have been singing classically for about 4 years now and i love it. As a hobby and more infact, i want to make it my career, if i can in a musical college in England.
I love the song form your album, "Je Veux Vivre Dans Ce Reve" because i have heard many sopranos sing that song and it is different everytime, but listening to you sing makes me get goose pimples....especially that top note at the end which is increadible....and how you hold it on...is just a wow.
I first became interested in you, when i heard you sing with Lesley Garrett ( who again i am currently a fan of. Seeing her live and having met her socially) and you both sang my all time favourite duet " Evening Prayer" form Hansel and Gretel and it was fabulous... from then on its been like glue with you. your voice is so addictive.
I wish you all the success, where ever you go i will support you.
Kind Regards
Benjamin Price

Especially, your breath is great such as Pensieri in Agripinna. what next recording repertory?? I hope you sing Massnet opera arias except Thais and Manon, such as Esclamonde, la roi de lahore(?). Especially, i wish you must sing esclamonde. Don`t burden my comment. somday you will sing Adriana and Esclamonde. Thank you for listening your voice through Handel arias. I wish you wil win your Rodelinda debut.

I just wanted to thank you for being an inspiration to me in so many ways. I especially enjoyed meeting you in Chicago after a production of THAIS during my sophomore year.

Ms. Fleming:
I just heard you on Saint Paul Sunday. The range of music you performed is a testament to your artistry and your wide appreciation of all music for the human voice.
If I admit that I enjoyed your singing of O Mio Babbino Caro most of all the pieces which you sang this morning, that is because it is one of my favorite arias. This does not reflect on your other choices, but my own preferences for arias from Italian operas.
I grew up listening to Metropolitan Opera broadcasts with my mother, when I was a child in Chicago in the late 1940's and the 1950's. My love of opera is why today, here in Nashville, I am a proud season ticket holder to the Nashville Opera Associations productions.
You are among the most truly awesome sopranos I have heard. May God strengthen you to keep performing for as long as it still brings you pleasure to do so. And may you and your family know only the blessings of life.
Shalom,
Michael B. Snyder

I would like to invite comment about my own performance page (web URL left) as a young soprano. I have several songs (14 in all) ranging from opera to classical to musical theatre to sacred to light pop (all in the form of mp3s for downloading). I have written the lyrics for several of the songs listed.
Tim Airey:
My daughter Stefanie Rose is a Canadian crossover artist with a beautiful soprano voice. She is only 17 but has a vocal maturity years ahead of her age. Stefanie lives in Calgary AB, Canada and performs in a variety of musical styles - from pop to popera. Stefanie is now starting to attract worldwide attention. I work security at a local concert venue, and I had honestly never heard of Renee Fleming until she performed here. My coworkers all told me I was in for a real treat, and they were right. The singing was wonderful, and afterward I was posted in the room where she met her guests. I blieve my supervisor did this as a favor to me so I could see how beautiful she is in person. Of all of the "talent" I have met through my job, she was the best in every way.

Dear Ms. Fleming,
You might be interested to know, in keeping the dream and vision alive for young singers, when you performed the Countess at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC in 1990 I was in the chorus...the Westminster Choir. Today, only 14 years later! (whew!) I am making my debut in the same role with Opera San Jose in California. A little tale of coming full-circle; Le Nozze di Figaro was the first opera I ever saw as well.
Brava to you for sharing your soul with the world....singing is the voice of the soul.
Sincerely,
Deborah Berioli

My nephew plays lead trombone for you at The Met. I only said that to get your attention, although it is true (he's Demian Austin).
Anyway, I never wrote a fan letter in my life, and this is no news to you I am sure, but when I listen to you sing "Chi Il Bel Sogno Di Doretta" (which you're probably just sick to death of doing) every bad moment of my life was worth surviving.
I've never heard such a gorgeous voice, and, in Doretta's case, longing has never been more thrilling.
Well, there. Oh, your Blance DuBois is incredible.

Her voice is absolutely hauntingly gorgeous and feminine, OMG, a about infinity increase in intensity with her music on while making love and it applies not only to film, I think of her lord or the ring voice when say brave American soldiers or Israeli soldiers or russian soldiers die from a road side bomb and I literally cry looking at such a grisly picture and hearing her music....god help me I think they are at a better place now dying so young and helpless and lost. Unknown flames falling to war.
It is beyond words how she does it, tears to my eyes, surrealness, infinity express from her voice....

You have been my favourite soprano now for a couple of years, after Elly Ameling, the soprano who lived in my home village in the Netherlands. You have been to Australia and skipped New Zealand, which happens a lot. I taped your Traviata at the Met which is a constant joy.
All the best and please, do come to New Zealand one day. I'd pay a fortune just to be there!

Judging from how often he goes to the opera, you probably remember him too. He used to greet you backstage and encourage you, etc. Well, remember him in your prayers, as he has been under a lot of stress. His name is Gerry.

Dear Ms.Fleming,
I have recently graduated from the voice performance program of the Glenn Gould Professional School Of Music at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto and am looking to make the next step in my opera pursuits. I want to share this gift of voice and cultivate it to the best of my ability!
I look to you as a model of superb singing, purity of expression and acting. I always have wondered "how did you get to where you are?" I know you could advise me.
As a lyric soprano for the past 3 yrs, I have learned a lot about correct technique, expression and acting on stage. However I need to "go deeper" and find out more about what it takes, how to find balance between an opera career and say the possibility of settling down in marriage and of course having kids, what were some of your struggles, how did you manage to overcome the struggles, etc, what has been your most important lesson?
I am eager to know if you will be giving any classes in Toronto or anywhere in Canada; if you will be interviewed on TV; if you will be giving ANY MASTER CLASSES during the summer time...I would do everything I could to attend and learn from you.
I would be MOST grateful if you could let me know....
As I know how in demand you are, I do not expect at all that I would receive a response right away. However, I am crossing my fingers that I would hear from you anytime you can write me back :)
With much thanks and appreciation for taking the time, out of your extraordinarily busy schedule to consider & respond to my request!
Sincerely yours,
Austina Clea Soare

Dear Renee,
I hope that you will remember me from your Aspen Opera Theater days. I was the administrator for the program for Ed and Bob from 1984-88, and took voice from Beverly as well. In fact, one summer my lesson was immediately following yours and I used to come early and sit outside the door of her condo so I could listen to you sing. We all knew that your career would be successful, but what a career you're having!
I am writing to let you know that Lee & Stan Warren are living here in FW, TX as well as me, and Stan teaches voice at a local college. We all want to see you when you come next year to sing in Bass Hall, and take you to dinner or lunch one day whle you're here.
I'm sure that you didn't know that I went to school with Bruce Ford in Texas, and when he was here last season in Dallas, I had a chance to see him and catch up- he told me that he knew you and loved singing with you.
As ever, you know how proud we are of you and I enjoy knowing what a wonderful person you are as well as a gifted artist. Let me know when you will be here and I will let Stan & Lee know.
I believe that their e-mail is: sdlwarren@charter.net and mine is mezzojenny@charter.net
Looking forward to hearing from you. (By the way, did you ever get the flowers we sent to you in Dallas last Fall??) if not, c'est la vie!
Much Love,
Jennifer

Dear Renee,
Words alone cannot describe the beauty of music you bring to us, be it listening to you live in the concert hall or in DVDs or in your CDs. You are truly God-sent. Apart from being constantly amazed by your wonderful singing, I am also thankful that you are there to bring out the music and share them with the people all over the world. I am from Malaysia and I know how classical fans out there in Asia hunger and crave for great performances in music. Please bring the beauty of your music not only to America and Europe but all over Asia too ! God Bless You.
p/s : If you have not waved the audience bye-bye today after so many encores in the Symphony Hall this afternoon, I am afraid Mr Alfred Brendel's concert will certainly be delayed !!

Hi Renee,
My name is Jamie Patterson and I am a student at the New York School of Interior Design - currently in my third year. As part of a current project, we were assigned certain well-known individuals to design a particular New York apartment.
I am near the completion of my project, yet feel my project would benefit if I could ehance the design with some personal touches. Although I have purchased your DVD, read any and every article I have found on the web, and the piece about your home in "Interior Design" magazine, I don't feel like the design I created has a personal touch.
I would truly appreciate if you would take a few moments to let me know about some of your likes and dislikes. Perhaps colors you would avoid out of personal taste, favorite furniture style, favorite artist or artistic work, and maybe even where you spend most of your time when at home.
Thank you for any time you could give me to answer my questions.
Very truly yours,
Jamie Patterson

Hello Renée! I'm in the process of planning my vacation out to KS for Easter, and I see that you are in recital at the Folly Theater, 4/13/04. I'm hoping to see you perform live again! My wife and I saw you a couple of years back up in Cape Cod, and met you both after the show at your meet and greet, then again the following morning over breakfast as we stayed at the same hotel. You were gracious and genuinely warm, which both surprised and delighted us! I love both your live and recorded performances, and look forward to seeing you next week!
Best Regards, Mark

In an inspired moment whilst I was walking, this title came to my mind, and I shall annoint you from now on as La Suprema. For you are supremely gifted, supreme in every aspect, beauty, talent, voice, stage presence, humanness, everything The Goddess of opera should have. Brava La Suprema!

The Triumph of the Goddess of Opera. Ms Fleming took my breath away with her beauty, stage presence and of course her fabled voice. I booked the ticket last August and it was worth the wait. Her recital in Usher Hall was unforgettable and you deserved more lengthy standing ovations than that Ms. Fleming. As she sang "Ebben andro lontana...", everybody held their breaths as she exploded with her final note.Unforgettable. The encores were superb! Ms Fleming is the best, and I shall challenge other old, withered fanatics who would bring up names of dead people beware!Ms Flemning is here to stay, La Suprema shall reign! Thank you for your autographed poster Ms Fleming, I have prepared a shrine where to put it in my house. Your all-eclipsing talent is an inspiration.

Could someone please tell me the name of the very last song in the program that Rene sings.
Sung in German, it had English subtitles simultaneously displayed.

OK,OK I'm a fan who really enjoyed Renee's performance as Violetta at the Met this fall. My point below was why just copy something from a newspaper for your message as if it is the last word on the subject. The NY Times isn't that good! Perhaps the copiers thought it too rude to make their own negative comments in someone's GUESTbook.
Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, especially in America!
What performances/repertoire of Renee's didn't measure up for you?

Bonjour,
I am a 23-years old music student from Paris/France and I would like to say something about the anonymous "RF fan(?)" (March 18th, 2004) who has been angry about 'The New York Times'.
During the past years I heard Mrs Fleming many times in the U.S., UK and at our Opéra National de Paris. I am very grateful for wonderful and unforgettable moments. Of course Mrs Fleming has a beautiful voice. BUT I have seen also performances where Mrs Fleming sang and her voice was not really good.
Mrs Fleming's private homepage should be not a "Shrine of an Opera goddess" only. So, I think her fans - specially the anonymous one (March 18th, 2004) - should also learn to respect other opinions. Merci.
Yours,
Marianne

We were fortunate enough to see you when you were signing autographs but sadly did not have enough time to join the long queue of your admirers. We hope you managed to get to bed before dawn!

Dear René Fleming,Thank you for a fantastic birthday present on March 6! The direct broadcast of La Traviata from N.Y. to Sweden made me unplug my phone to be able to spend the evening with you and your talented colleagues without any interruption. The way you expressed Violetta's despair in the second act (with Germont) brought tears to my eyes! What a wonderful performance! Thank you for all magic moments over the years. That voice of yours is a true miracle. Please pay a visit to Stockholm and our concert hall - the sooner the better!

I had the honor of meeting you, getting my picture taken with you and giving you a gift when I saw you in “Thais” in Chicago. You where brilliant and have always been my inspiration and role model for my own singing. When I do college auditions next fall I can only hope that one day I will be as fine a singer as you are.

THE LOWS / CLASSICAL MUSIC: Subway Noise and Cults of Personality
Anthony Tommasini, Bernard Holland, Allan Kozinn and Anne Midgette weigh in
on the least rewarding classical music experiences of the preceding year.
MIDGETTE Renée Fleming was one of my disappointments this year.
TOMMASINI Disappointing? Even after that "Traviata" at the Met?
MIDGETTE Yeah, even after "Traviata," although I liked it better than I
expected. But I think she's one of the most overrated figures that has come
out
this year. What she does is a little superficial, and that's the level on
which some people are extolling her.
TOMMASINI I thought she performed the role beautifully. She wasn't saying,
"I'm doing the Violetta for all times," or "I'm trying to do it differently
than anybody else, so I'm not even thinking about the great heritage of . .
."
She was saying: "I've got my take on this. I'm going to be true to myself,
and however anybody wants to stack it up against other Violettas is fine."
And
I thought the singing was quite special. I've seldom felt a role being sort
of reinvented.
HOLLAND A problem, I think, is that her approach, too, is a necessity,
because her voice is not really big enough --
TOMMASINI No, it isn't.
HOLLAND To sing Violetta in that hall. And in order to compensate for that,
she had to do all this . . . stuff.
TOMMASINI Actually, one disappointing thing to me is the cult of personality
that seems to be in resurgence, which is exemplified by Lang Lang.
RF fan:
What is your point copying this here? People who write in this guestbook are fans of Renee who love her beautiful voice, and there are plenty of us. We can read the Times too, if we want.

Recently a friend loaned me a tape of a program in which Ms Fleming was in concert in Paris. I think it was filmed in 2002. The tape contained no titles and I wonder if I could get a list of those arias she sang.
I am a 78 year old woman and do not write fan mail but I have followed Ms Flemings career and believe her to be the finest soprano of our day. I have downloaded many of her recordings to my computer and while working have the pleasure of listening to 'The Beautiful Voice'.
Thank you,

Just wanted to say that I adored Renee Fleming's singing on the LOTR soundtracks, esp. for the Return of the King. How does she do it? Does she smooth out her vibrato and "cover" the sound? Anyway, it's beautiful beyond words. Can we please have a CD (all in Elvish ) with this sort of sound?!? I would die and go straight to heaven.
Thanks! Dianna

Happy Birthday Renee!
Thank you for another year of triumphs and great artistry. You are a breath of fresh air in a world where integrity and greatness are a thing of the past - in singing or anything else. The highlight of my year was hearing/seeing you in Fort Lauderdale last March. Looking forward with eager anticipation to Traviata on the air. Thank you for performing programs that bring the general public back to the concert halls - in spite of critical comment. As a musician, I am suffering from the loss of the Florida Philharmonic (which accompanied you), and has now closed; what you are doing is helping to fight in our battle to bring back the arts. Your recordings are my constant companions! Thanks for the joy you bring us all!
Have a wonderful birthday - and another great year.

Dearest Reneé,
Growing up in Buffalo, it doesn't give you a lot of opportunities. Some yes, but you have to have talent and a lot of patience. Also luck, which is something that you have. I am 18 years old, and have taken voice lessons through the Villa Maria Institute of Music for the past 6 years, with A. Gryta, she is a phenominal voice teacher, and speaks very highly of you and your music. For Christmas this year, I bought your "By Request" album, and it totally blew me away. I have heard your work before, but never have I felt so relaxed and at ease when I listen to an album. When I have had my last recital, I performed "O Mio Babbino Caro," and it totally blew everyone away. Those notes are incredible and I love being "up in the clouds." I recently also did a pageant, and my talent was performing opera. That was the song I chose, and even though I did not place as a finalist, I won overall for talent. I was pleased with my work.
Right now I attend Buffalo State College for Theatre, and hopefully some day plan on attending Eastman, and Juilliard, switching my Major to Vocal Performance. When I read that you had attended both schools, it was even more reason for me to go. If you can do it, then so can I. One day I hope to achieve your status, and I will work extremely hard to get there. Have a wonderful day!! Thank you for being an inspiration!
Love,
Aurora

Dear Renee,
I am relatively new to hearing about you and your wonderful voice.
I am a fan of Lord of the Rings and was listening to the third soundtrack, when I heard your voice. I was so awestruck with the beauty and clear tones of which you sing. I had to find out who the voice was that sang so beautifully. I just wanted to let you know that hearing your voice sent chills down my spine with how clearly you hit every single note and with the range at which you sing.
I am so glad that I discovered that you were the voice singing and am looking to purchase some of your CD's. I hope more and more people discover what a wonderful singer you are. I only wish that I heard about you sooner.
Hopefully, I can see you in concert soon. Please let me know via email if you plan on returning to Philadelphia, PA anytime soon.

Renee,
What a magnificent performance at Carnegie Hall December 11, 2003! The concert was truly everything we (my wife, youngest daughter and myself) expected and more! Your work is magnificent and is in a class by itself! btw, it was very nice to hear some more popular music too!
Fortunately an older lady was sitting next to me during the concert. She told me that she had never been to an opera concert and was a regular subscriber to Carnegie Hall. We spoke about some of the finer music strengths your have (especially total dominance in the upper vocal range). I can tell you that she was totally awed by your performance and she indicated she would make it point to see you again!
In addition, she also told me about the extreme heartache and personal tradegy you had in your life to further persue music. You have my total dedication and respect. One has to do what is right in their heart and soul and these choices are never easy.
I am going to have to make it a point to come to your performance in Columbus, Ohio, as it is only a 3 hour drive from where I live and I already drive 4-8 hours a week to perform church music anyway.
I also showed my church choir the signed CD from the concert and they were absolutely amazed! They now think I'm some "celebrity" but I did tell them it was worth the wait just to see and speak with you for just a moment!
There's so much more I can say but this is a guestbook and I'll just end it with a heartfeldt "thank you" for being yourself, Renee.

I am listening to the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King soundtrack and enjoying it. I have all three soundtracks and see you listed as the featured performer. I would like to say how much I love your singing on this movie and soundtrack. Your voice has such power and purity. Thank you for helping make the movies and music and dear to me as the books.

Ms. Fleming: Back in the 80s I was a neighbor of yours on Bennett Avenue in New York. We shared dog walking...you had
your little old setter, Bessie, and I had
a Gordon Setter, Nora. You gave me a ticket to your first performance in La Boheme at Juilliard...I still have a setter! I am so happy you achieved your dream.

Dear Renee,
I tried to send a direct e-mail from the website, but it would not connect with my service, so I am sending this message via the guestbook. I will also send a letter to the addresses listed on the contact page.
I am excited that you will be coming to Columbus, Ohio in April! I am looking forward to hearing you in a live performance. I am doubly excited to hear and hopefully meet another student from Churchville-Chili Senior High School, who pursued a successful career in music!
I am a 1961 graduate of Churchville-Chili High and attended SUNY at Fredonia. I was fortunate to be on the first Teen Board that the Eastman School of Music formed in the early 60's. I also studied voice there during the summers. Knowing that I was interested in teaching music, rather than performing, I attended college at SUNY Fredonia.
Since that time, I have continued my musical studies at Indiana University, received a Masters degree with Orff Emphasis from Ball State University, a Ph.D. in Mus. Ed. from The Ohio State University, and a Kodály Certificate from the Kodály Center of America.
Since 1979 I have been teaching at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where I direct the Women's Chorus, teach vocal methods courses, and oversee The Kodály Institute at Capital and a semester abroad program at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemét, Hungary. I am currently serving as the President of the Organization of American Kodály Educators.
In addition to my work at the university, I am also the Artistic Director of the Columbus Children's Choir - The Voice of the City. We have 7 choirs for young singers. I conduct the touring choir: New World Singers.
When I first learned that you also went to Churchville-Chili High School, I was excited, pleasantly surprised, and honored. While I am certainly not the internationally-known performer that you are, I think it is interesting that this music educator and an internationally-acclaimed artist came from the same, small school! I have no idea of the number in your graduating class, but in 1961, it was 83! My mentor at that time was William Halligan, the band director. I played saxophone and bassoon during high school, as well as sang. However, it was not until college and beyond that my voice really began to develop to present recitals and solo roles.
I was fortunate to sing in the opera chorus at Chautauqua during the summer of 1965, where I met my husband, also a musician.
I have let 'the powers that be' in Columbus know of my high school connection to you. I thought it might give them an additional publicity twist. I am so hoping that we might be able to meet when you come to Columbus in April. We live downtown in an old, restored Victorian home that was built in 1880. I offer my home as a guest respite for you, but realize that you might prefer a hotel. Just know that it is available.
I like to think, that in addition to all of your hard work to achieve your successful career, that I left some special musical inspirations and 'genes' in the CCHS music room for you! (ha-ha!)
I am truly looking forward to your visit, the prospect of meeting you, and hopefully a reply.
Sincerely,
Sandra L. Mathias

Dear Ms. Fleming
Your performances, both live and recorded, provide so much joy and inspiration.
Your recorded performance of Korngold's Marietta's Lied from Die Tote Stadt remains among my all time favourites.
I hope you will undertake a complete recording of this rarely-performed but beautiful opera.
Wishing you continued success,

Ms Fleming,
I saw your buddy Susie Graham for the first time ever singing at the Barbican last week. She was Erika in Barber's Vanessa, beautiful man, made me cry buckets, one of the most talented lyrics ever!! Anyway, it made me think, when are you two gonna come back to Blighty and do a double act again??? If we can't get Rosenkavalier AFTER the one coming up at CG what about Alcina or Clemenza? You would rock as Vitellia! Anything man, the phone directory if you want, just come back and do a whole production. We need you over here!
We got in a load of the new Rusalka DVD with you and Diadkova (the human foghorn!!) at work last week (it's an opera shop). It's so popular! How much does that production rule!!! Looks great, sounds great, brava diva!
Hope to see you at the Southbank, much love, Rose xxx

Renee,
We met briefly at the Borders on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, January 2003. You were wrapping up Thais with Lyric and doing a quick Q & A. I presented you with 'The Beautiful Voice' and you so graciously signed and offered regards. I want again to thank you for the daily impact you have had on my life. Your reading of the aria from Rusalka is currently carrying me through an extremely tumultuous time in my personal life. You are my inspiration.
Love entirely, Justin M. Trifiro

You don't mention the exciting new issues of various live recordings and DVDs which are coming out now. These include "Manon" from Paris on both DVD and CD; "Rusalka" (also from Paris) on DVD and "Otello" from the Met (with Domingo and Morris circa 1995) Since there are so few DVDs of Renee the above must count as good news. The Met batch also includes 3 DVDs with Ben Heppner ("Tristan", "Meistersinger" and "Fidelio")

Hi! I hope that all is well with you. :)
Your sweet spirit is a bright shining inspiration for me! I thank you for being true to who you are (to the core of your inner-self)- all of the genuine heart-felt love fills the air with your kind heart and expresses itself through your divine gift. This is present in your being, in all- the voice and the person. Dale speaks highly of you- can you believe- he lives below me- in the basement! How funny is that! I am lucky to have met him, (and he is very gracious with letting me borrow his records! =)...I was overjoyed to borrow his LP of Eleanor Steber singing Knoxville...oh my...how glorious that recording is. I wonder if you love listening to Claudia Muzio- she is a precious gem, her rendition of 'Sorgi, o padre' brings tears to my eyes. A friend of mine informed me that you will be singing Rossini's 'Semiramide'! Congrats! The bel canto rep. is what I love, (and my long-term goal is to specialize in this rep too. :) I am glad that you are doing more bel canto works. I wish that 'Rosmonda D'Inghelterra' could one day be performed at the MET! (Now that would be fantastic!) =) I wanted to go to the Benefit but I am a hard-working-surviving-singer myself, and the tickets are too expensive- so hopefully I can meet with you one day, and give you a hug! :) If you are ever in the area- and you visit Dale- please stop by upsatirs and say Hello! :) All the best, Helene ;)

I feel like so many others about you and your incredible gift of voice. Your lovliness and warm beauty is stunning and shines in your personality. You and I have a wondeful young boy soporano we both know. He was in the title role of "The Little Prince" and met you while in Houston. He spoke very highly of you. I have had the pleasure of singing with him in Mpls. I am a soprano and I've even been told I look like you, which is an incredible compliment in itself. Thank you for sharing your beauty of song and your presence. I hope to meet you some day. So if you see a woman who looks a lot like you (I'm a little older) and is crying when she meets you, it'll be me. You've given a world of music to the music world.
Your biggest fan...Mary

Hi, wonderful site.
Out of the hundreds of soprano's I've heard (both live and on recordings) Renee possesses one of the most beautiful, rich and emotive voices I've had the good fortune to hear. Seeing her as Rusalka at Covent Garden was one of my finest evenings at the opera. I am hoping to have a career in opera myself and can honestly say Renee's conciencious, thoughtful and dedicated professionalism have been so valuble and inspiring. Thankyou Renee, I am truly grateful. x

Dear Renee,
If only you knew how you have impacted my life. It was when I saw your performance as Countessa Almaviva in Le Nozze Di Figaro at the Met (with Bryan Terfel and Cecilia Bartoli) that I fell in love with opera. This was several years ago when I was only a high school student. I learned how to sing by listening to your recordings. Now, I am singing the lead role in Handel's Ariodante at UC Berkeley with Jonathan Kuhner (I think you have worked with him in the past) and I just want to thank you for all the inspiration that you have given me. You truly have una voce bellissima! I am looking forward to seeing you in Rusalka at the Met next spring.
Best,

Dear Renee,
I've been an avid admirer of yours since I attended your alma matter, the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.
I graduated from Crane in 2001, and while I was there, I missed your performance due to a mix up with tickets at the school box office. I've been very dissapointed ever since. However, I am going to be attending your performance of La Traviata on October 11th. I wanted to let you know how much my friends and I are looking foward to your performance, and we humbly request an opportunity to meet with you and to receive an autograph!
Your voice and your music are a great source of joy and entertainment for my friends and me, and such an opportunity would be an event that we would cherish forever!!

Dear Miss Fleming:
You are and always will be one of my favorite sopranos. Last night, I was rewatching parts of your Donna Anna in the Met telecast of DON GIOVANNI. This surely must be one of your greatest performances ever. Your "Or sai chi l'onore" is one of the best examples I know of a singer conveying intense drama while singing beautifully (your tone is white-hot), and your "Non mi dir" is deeply moving as well as beautiful. I will always treasure this video, along with your Countess in the Met FIGARO -- another great performance. I also plan to buy more of your CDs (I already have "Mozart Arias" and "Great Opera Scenes" and play them over and over -- I can't wait to hear "Bel Canto" and your self-titled "Renee Fleming" CD.) I eagerly await your Met broadcast Violetta...

thank you for 'by request'. it made me remember why i first fell in love with your voice. i have been eagrly awaiting the release for your interpretation of 'e strano...'as a tase before i come to hear you in november at the Met, what seems to be a yearly birthday tradition as i saw you in Il Pirata last year....the Traviaita aria was stunning, with so many glorious details and which bore your personal trademarks. The staccato on mysteriouso...STUNNING! and as always your inherent musicality was evident. my only question is why didn't you take the high note at the end? surely it is in your range as you have hit much highe notes in Thais. I know that many soprannos have chosen 'not to go there' such as monsterat caballe and angella gherorgiou, but i was surprised that you didn't. would love some insight as to why and maybe in live performance....one can hope. brava! bella donna
